The outstanding results Mike Shine has achieved for his clients pre and post earthquakes, is clearly reinforced by their endorsements and recommendations.

"Real estate agents often get a poor press, so this is to let everyone know that there is one agent around who surpasses everything you could ask for if you are selling or buying. Mike is utterly reliable, organised, a superb communicator, intelligent, punctual and a really good guy. I bought and sold at the same time and although we had to go through some complications, Mike maintained his energy, kept in touch and never once faltered in his focus. Unfailingly positive, helpful and thoughtful, Mike and his wife Donna make a team that is hard to beat".
39 Cressy Terrace, Lyttelton
"Mike Shine is a rare breed among real estate agents – honest, affable and willing to go the extra mile, while his no BS approach is as refreshing as it is effective when it comes to selling property."
"We spent more than three years looking to buy our new house and met dozens of real estate agents in the process, but we never really felt that any of them could see beyond the commission, had the sellers’ best interests at heart or really enjoyed what they were doing."
"When it came time to sell our own house it was a no-brainer that we would list with Mike and his lovely wife Donna. As a local he has an extensive knowledge of the Lyttelton market, comes to the table with a tailored sales and marketing strategy and, most importantly, we knew we could trust him completely."
"Mike is a great communicator and kept us up to date throughout the process, was always on hand to offer advice and generally made the whole experience hassle free."
"In the lead up to Christmas he, rather remarkably, sold our ‘as is where is’ house in just over two weeks for a price he said he would."
"We have no hesitation in recommending Team Mike Shine."

"Mike Shine sold our brand new vacant house at 1 Simeon Quay in August.
"We were very impressed with Mike's professionalism, real estate expertise and knowledge of the future plans for Lyttelton and the surrounding areas."
"Both Mike and Donna went the extra mile to ensure the marketing campaign ran smoothly, even going as far as putting fresh flowers in the house every week, vacuuming and dusting after every open home and holding extra open homes in the evening, showing off the great night time views from the house."
"Mike kept us fully informed throughout the selling process and we always had confidence that he was working hard on our behalf to achieve a successful sale.
"They exceeded our expectations and we can assure any home owner that Mike and Donna will go above and beyond to achieve a top result."

"Mike Shine was introduced to us by a friend - and he came with the highest recommendation."
"Mike accepted the challenge of selling a section at a time when such sales in the surrounding area were none existent. He is a consummate professional, always ‘available’ with a never ending supply of open, honest and informative advice for his Client. And he’s tenacious – a wonderful attribute when all the indicators suggest that a sale is unlikely."
"His positive common sense approach was without doubt the difference between success and failure. He negotiated an outcome that exceeded our expectation. And if repeat business is an indicator of customer satisfaction then I won’t be going anywhere else. Why would I? - he is quite simply remarkably good at what he does."
14 Winchester Street, Lyttelton
Mike Shine and his team were excellent to deal with from the very beginning – straight talking, professional, highly efficient and well informed about the Lyttelton market. Mike’s above average knowledge of post-earthquake issues and their impact on the property market was of particular benefit. Listing our property as an ‘as is, where is’ proposition, meant that it was not a straight forward sale.
Mike was extremely communicative with us throughout the entire process, from targeting specific buyer groups, to marketing the property, to the final sale strategy (auction). We were extremely happy with the result and we couldn’t recommend Mike Shine and his team more highly.

"Mike Shine knows the Lyttelton market so well that the method of sale he recommended created the exact momentum he stated it would.
Our house went on the market a little later than expected yet all the way through the sales process Mike was highly confident about the sales method. Selling a house is considered stressful yet we found the process most enjoyable thanks to Mike’s efficient and highly professional approach.
It was clear from the on-set that Mike worked very hard for us yet was also firmly focused on meeting the needs of prospective buyers. He is very knowledgeable and helpful and an absolute pleasure to deal with.
We highly recommend Mike Shine and his team."

"We sought an initial assessment for selling our Lyttelton property from Mike Shine and consequently listed it with him. Mike gave us confidence that we could attain a premium for our property, dealt with matters efficiently and stuck to his word.
He advised a strategy for selling our home, and with our input welcome, devised a comprehensive marketing plan that we are convinced put the property in front of the right eyes.
Mike has an organised, precise and direct (but polite!) manner and these qualities gave us assurance that attaining our asking price was not only a possibility, but that it was also in the right hands.
Thanks to Mike and Donna we are able to move forward with our plans. We would use them again."

"Team Mike Shine recently sold our house in Governors Bay. We met with several agents and chose Mike partly because we were impressed with the research demonstrated in his presentation to us and partly because we received good reports from previous clients whom we approached for comment. We also felt he would bring enthusiasm and energy to the task and this proved to be the case."
"Mike and his team did an excellent job; our house was sold the day before the planned auction and with far less stress than we anticipated. Years of experience have provided Mike with good knowledge of the real estate market and a process which works and keeps the client informed. It certainly worked for us."
"We are happy to be contacted by anyone considering using Team Mike Shine as their agent."

"I would like to thank Mike Shine for his professionalism, knowledge and commitment to the sale of our property on Oxford Street, Lyttelton. We live in a rural area, so when I was given the task of selling the family estate I decided to check all agents in the Lyttelton area. It was clear that after checking selling records for the area, that Mike was the obvious choice. After meeting Mike, with his local knowledge of Lyttelton history, being a local and knowing what was happening for the future of Lyttelton, he was the agent for us. At the first meeting Mike stated what type of sale should take place, what needed to be done to assist with the sale and made it quite clear that the property would sell within the time frame. His knowledge of local tradesmen to assist if necessary was great. This task, at a difficult time was made easy by Mike. Thanks for your time and professional expertise in this sale."

"Mike’s enthusiasm for, and knowledge of, all that is happening in Lyttelton was perfect for what we needed to sell, our rough but treasured little cottage. His professionalism, combined with an open, straight and encouraging communication style, both kept us informed and filled us with confidence that he was the right person for us. Thank you Mike for all the extras that you did too, from calling us while overseas through to organising tradesmen to move timber from the property. I cannot recommend you more highly."
15 Days Road, Lyttelton
"We first met Mike when he sold the property of a neighbour of ours. He called on us to tell us what was happening and to introduce the new neighbours. We thought then that here’s a man who goes that extra step for his clients.
We decided then that if ever we were to sell, Mike Shine would be our selling agent.
Eventually the time came for us to sell our house in Lyttelton. Or so we thought. We had engaged Mike at the outset, but one thing after another intervened and one day we were selling and the next day we weren’t.
This on again/off again process stretched over a few months, and throughout Mike Shine was the consummate gentleman. It must have been very frustrating for him, but we never saw any signs of it. He gave us as much space as we needed and didn’t apply any pressure on us to come to a decision. He was supportive and helpful during this time and we appreciated Mike’s sense of occasion.
Suddenly it was all on, we had found a new house and we had a very limited time to get an unconditional sale on our existing house. Mike was professional, organised and up-front with all the stages of the process. If we ever felt doubt that it would all come together, Mike pulled us through with his positive attitude and unsurpassed knowledge of the local market.
In the end, and with a few hours to spare, we had an unconditional offer, with another waiting in the wings. We achieved our asking price and everything seemed to fall into place. We have no doubt that Mike had been working furiously on our behalf in the background throughout.
We would certainly use Mike and Donna Shine again if the need arose. We’ve bought and sold a number of properties over the years, but we’ve never had an agent as organised, professional and dedicated as Mike. We count them among our friends and would happily recommend them to others."

"Selling the house was an emotional time for us and you came to us with a “can-do” attitude, a professional approach - not just putting a house on the auction block, but providing us with a step-by-step “no-bull” strategy based on the expertise gained from both your years in the local market and your success in selling “as-is, where-is” properties in Lyttelton. In short, you presented and followed through with a package that included preparation, a realistic timeline, superior marketing and a determined focus to do the best for us while keeping us in the loop throughout the process."
"I am sure you know we were a bit dubious when you told us where to set our expectations but you delivered - bang on - and Karen and I hope we can keep in touch and do business again in the future."

"Just a note to say a huge thank you for your help with the swift selling of our family home at Gilmour Terrace, Lyttelton.
An entertaining partnership that began with you selling our Toby jugs for us on your first visit to the house. Your expertise, compassion, thoughtfulness and sense of humour made the task of selling our dearly loved childhood home easier.
You made it clear what we were to expect and what we needed to do to make the sale happen. You put together a fabulous booklet with some photos we can hold onto. We still cannot believe that it sold so quickly and to keep it local made it all the better.
If we are dabbling in the property market again we will certainly be in touch with you!"

"Having sold privately in the past, I had been planning on doing the same with this house. However, I decided to engage Mike to do the job for me and I am so pleased that I did.
"Mike certainly breaks the mould when it comes to real estate agents. He loves what he does, puts an amazing amount of application and energy into the process and carries you along on a tide of positivity as he does so."

"Selling our property has been a surprisingly fun process that gave me a very satisfying result. I ‘interviewed’ four agents (received assessments from four others) and found Mike to be the most passionate and enthusiastic about real estate – it is obvious he enjoys his work.
"He is a professional and puts in a huge amount of time and effort into doing things well. There are no short cuts into doing a good job… waiting for the right day to do the photo shoot was a good example – a great day resulted in fantastic photos – and Mike wouldn't settle for anything less.
"Communication throughout the sale process was faultless, and his research was thorough. He gets a good feel for the ‘essence’ of the property and promotes it accordingly. Thanks Mike.
Would recommend you to anyone."

"The sale had some unconventional elements and Mike worked calmly and effectively with the vendor and purchaser to work these through.
"Mike was diligent in pre-planning strategy and tactics for sale. The sale had some unconventional elements and Mike worked calmly and effectively with the vendor and purchaser to work these through. Everything he promised to do, he did.
"He also worked closely with my neighbours to get them on board. In the end, the deal was fair for everyone - with both parties close to their "squeak" points."

“When selling our home we arranged appraisals from three separate real estate agents. All were exceptionally good but Mike was chosen because of his huge knowledge of the local market, his friendly approach, his track record and his obvious passion for Lyttelton and the harbour areas.
"We were not disappointed. His preparation for sale was top class and his continual communication during the process was really appreciated.
"Details however small were always communicated and we were always kept fully up to date with anything that was happening. Mike also impressed with his ongoing follow-up of any interest shown in the property, and we were always confident that a satisfactory sale would be the outcome."
"We would have no hesitation in recommending Mike to anyone”.

"I wanted my house sold and Mike achieved that via a very positive approach to presentation.. He asked lots of questions about the property and the local environment. From this he built up an impressive picture of the positive aspects of my property which he passed on to potential buyers. He was always positive and encouraging whilst keeping the process as unobtrusive as possible. He and Donna ran the Open Homes very professionally and Mike kept me well informed on progress to date. Overall, he ran a very polished campaign."
"Another big plus for me was the advice he gave me about what to look for in my next home and how to achieve the best price for it."
"On a more personal note I found him a pleasure to work with, have recommended him to friends and most definitely would employ him again."

"We recently sold a rental property though Mike Shine and would not hesitate to recommend his services.
"Mike was approachable and far surpassed our expectations of what a real estate agent would provide. Nothing was too much trouble, and no task was too hard or too small. At all times he provided prompt and thorough communication, keeping us fully informed of everything going on.
"Following Mike’s recommendations our property sold quickly and for more than our highest expectations. Overall Mike made selling our property a fast and painless process."

"Mike Shine took on the task of selling our Cass Bay property during a very difficult time when my husband was terminally ill and efforts by another agent had failed to achieve a sale.
"Mike’s friendly manner and encouragement immediately put us at ease. These qualities teamed with outstanding enthusiasm and a forthright approach instilled such confidence that we knew we were in competent hands, and we never doubted Mike’s ability to achieve a positive result for us.
"He took charge of the whole process, yet never once left us out of the loop, his communication was impeccable throughout.
"Mike quickly identified where the previous agent had been lacking and he compiled a superbly structured marketing package, which included a brochure unique to our property. Aware that we were on a time line for a prompt sale, Mike wasted no time in organising everything in a professional and efficient manner.
"During the selling period, sadly, my husband passed away. Mike could not have been more sensitive and supportive at a time when I needed it most. He maintained his focus on the job we had asked him to do and he came through with the desired result.
"I cannot speak highly enough of Mike, his professionalism and expertise are outstanding.
"If asked, who I would recommend to sell a property, I would have to say – Mike Shine, without a moment’s hesitation. It has been an absolute pleasure working with him.
"Thank you so much Mike for a job well done."

"Hi Mike, just a quick note to say sincere thanks for the effort you put into selling our home. Without your professional skill and marketing plan I don’t believe that we would have enjoyed anywhere near the success achieved, especially considering these challenging post-quake times and it being so close to the Xmas.
"The interest you generated throughout your marketing process was truly fantastic and the package was well done, from the photographer who only wanted the perfect shot for the advertising to the conclusion where the auctioneer worked the buyers.
"No matter what hurdles were put in your way you were able to leap over them without the slightest hiccup.
"Mike, if we ever need to sell another property, you will be the real estate agent we will call. Congratulations for a job well done."

"In recent months we have bought and sold a house with Mike Shine acting as our real estate agent. In both situations he was professional, knowledgeable and easy to deal with. Best of all, he was always positive and nothing was ever too much trouble.
"Mike was always willing to ferret out more information for us, source new data or arrange yet another visit. We love our new house and love that we sold our old one!"

"We had tried off and on for two years to sell our property in Cass Bay. After the earthquakes we had given up all hope of being able to sell our property. With having to travel an hour to work each day it was imperative that the property was sold to allow us to move closer to my work. A friend of my son’s approached me one day and said ‘if you really want to sell your house, I know a guy who will get a SOLD sticker on it for you.’ I had nothing to lose, so I gave him a call. What struck me about Mike was his honesty and his wealth of marketing knowledge.
"Mike told me exactly what to do to get the house ready for sale, and we got a sale in a very short period of time. Mike kept me informed every step of the way, and I absolutely valued his honesty and professional approach. I would not hesitate in using Mike again for future property deals, and have recommended him to other people looking for a straight up, honest agent. Thanks Mike for walking this journey with our family through these difficult times."

Do Creative Marketing Campaigns REALLY Work?
323 McQueens Valley Road, Banks Peninsula
“Mike Shine sold my house in McQueens Valley. His enthusiasm for this sale in a difficult market is to be commended. He worked tirelessly in producing an impressive brochure, an up to the date LIM report, property report, all included in an impressive Property Pack mailed out to prospective buyers. The property was also marketed on the Ray White website with a stunning photo gallery.
“Added to this, Mike managed to secure a front page picture featured in the Canterbury Property Press.
“After he secured a buyer, he liaised with the Council and my lawyer in tidying up issues concerning the property’s Final Code Compliance Certificate (as I was out of the country) concluding in the unconditional contract for the sale of the house.
“I would without hesitation recommend Mike’s services to anyone needing a good, trustworthy Real Estate agent.”

“I have worked with Mike Shine for 20 years and over that time Mike has sold a number of properties for me – he has always achieved what we set out to do in an understated and professional manner. In my opinion, Mike Shine stands head and shoulders above those in his profession.”

“It is rare that one gets the opportunity to work with a consummate professional. In the time of extreme challenge, uncertainty and in a market place that is devoid of confidence, Mike Shine performed beyond our expectations, in every way and we were a complex real estate proposition. A matter of weeks after the Canterbury Earthquake, during a period of family crisis and as the endless aftershocks shook fear into the hearts of purchasers, Mike took the reins and the property was successfully marketed and sold!
“Mike’s intuitive sense of the market, dedication, motivation and vast experience in the realty industry meant that we were in safe hands.
“As the owner of a local advertising agency, we were clients who had a keen understanding of marketing, advertising and making connections with potential consumers. We handed the complete marketing strategy over to Mike, and the results speak for themselves.
“I cannot imagine having a more well planned and executed campaign – no detail was left unresolved. Mike carefully managed our investment in media placement affording maximum exposure, with value added opportunities beyond our expectation.
“Mike supported our emotional journey through the 3 month process with his never ending positivity, honesty and enthusiasm.”

A double garage/workshop that formed part of a family home. The owners had a vision that this unit might be sold while still retaining ownership of their family home. This vision was shared with Mike who then established professional contacts that would ultimately allow the garage/workshop to be recognised as a value-added proposition and resulted in a successful sale.
"This marketing strategy allowed potential buyers to share this future vision. The new owners have subsequently converted the garage/workshop into a well-appointed apartment that has maximised the opportunity for another special Lyttelton property.

“We are New Zealanders living in Perth, Western Australia and employed Mike Shine to purchase a Lyttelton section to have a new home built for our family. Mike introduced us to a builder and our new home was built to our complete satisfaction. A subsequent change in family circumstances necessitated its sale. Mike auctioned our home and achieved a wonderful result.
"We would recommend Mike as a trustworthy, knowledgeable, enthusiastic agent who really knows his market place.”

“Hi Mike. Thank you for all your efforts in selling our home. What stands out is that you work very, very hard. You had a clear process to follow that built trust with us, and you never tired of taking that extra step to ensure that everyone was happy. It was heartening that you ensured that the purchasers had a good experience as well as we all live in the same community.”

“Mike shine recently sold one of my houses and, having been recommended to me by many people, I am glad that I chose Mike. His positive spirit and knowledge of real estate made what could have been a long, drawn out stressful undertaking the complete opposite. Mike gave solid advice on expectations of both buyers and sellers and marketed the house in an original, professional and passionate style. His attention to every detail was unrelenting.
"The house sold in 3 weeks with only 4 open days. I would highly recommend Mike to all and his follow up help in purchasing a new property has been on-going and much appreciated. So go with the best, forget the rest! Cheers and thank you Mike.”
20A Exeter Street, Lyttelton
“Mike, I would like to thank you sincerely for all your help with selling the property I was looking after. I had previously been advised on many occasions that the house either would not sell or would be sold at an extremely low price due to outstanding earthquake damage and its Lyttelton location. Two real estate agents refused to even attempt to sell it!
"From the first moment you were enthusiastic and positive about its sale. You were incredibly encouraging and supportive, and most importantly, professional. Unbelievably, you achieved a sale prior to the house even going on the market, and then managed to secure a back-up offer. I would have no hesitation in recommending you to any potential purchaser or vendor. I cannot thank you enough.”

“We emigrated to Christchurch from the UK in January 2010 and we first met Mike Shine when we went to view a section that he was marketing; we asked each other lots of questions. We found Mike extremely open and honest and exceedingly knowledgeable about the market in Christchurch and Banks Peninsula.
“Mike gave us access to his contacts to ask even more questions with regarding to building our own home. Mike was never pushy. After lots of due diligence we decided not to build so continued to look for a property that we could call home.
“Mike truly understood our entire brief, he kept in touch with us on a weekly basis; he was always on hand to help and advise us. Mike is tenacious; he never gave up and found the perfect home for us.
“We recently moved into our home that Mike had found and negotiated for us. Historically, for us, buying a property was an extremely stressful experience. Mike made the process so simple and stress free; his understanding of us and his communication was the key.
“Mike went over and above what we expected of a Real Estate Agent. Mike continues to stay in touch and we know that he is always available for help and we still call on him for advice. We would not hesitate to recommend Mike as a ‘One Stop Shop’ Real Estate Agent – he makes things happen and is so easy to do business with.”

“Mike Shine was engaged to sell a property in Lyttelton for which I was a trustee. Although the property was very attractive with a stunning view, it hit the market at a very bad time, especially for the properties in the price range being requested. Also, the house had a Rockcote finish and there was much emotional publicity circulating at the time regarding that type of cladding.
“Notwithstanding these factors, Mike did an excellent job in promoting the positives of the property and was very energetic in pursuit of interested potential purchasers. He produced a booklet that showed off the fine features of the property, with excellent photographs.
“The result was a sale that suited all parties in a trying market environment. Due to his courteous, professional and polite manner, Mike was a pleasure to work with on this sale.”

“We met Mike at one of his open homes in Lyttelton. His marketing material and local knowledge were superior to others we had met in his industry. On that basis, we listed our home with Mike and were pleased that we did so.
He was, at all times, professional, willing to go that extra mile and achieved a wonderful result prior to auction. Without hesitation, we would highly recommend Mike Shine as a Real Estate Professional who really knows his stuff.”

Macefield Homestead, Childrens Bay, Akaroa
Overlooking the Spectacular Akaroa Harbour, this astonishingly beautiful 65 hectare property is one of the Bank Peninsula’s largest and most established properties. In 5 separate titles with large stands of native bush, beach frontage and an historic homestead – the owners’ family has been associated with the property since the mid 1860’s. The family decided to sell and a prominent Canterbury Real Estate company was contracted to sell the property by tender. After some months of marketing, no successful result was achieved. Through a referral, the vendors contacted Mike Shine who applied his marketing programme to the property. Once Mike Shine began his marketing campaign, the property was sold within the three month listing period for an undisclosed sum of several million dollars.
“I have enjoyed working with Mike Shine and appreciated his efforts and professionalism. Many thanks for your help.”

147 Fitzgerald Avenue, Christchurch
This heritage listed, two-storey home is a great example of the late 19th century Victorian colonial architecture. Recently renovated to an exceptional standard (winning the City Council’s Heritage Award), the owners lived in the top floor and used the ground floor as their business premises.
Personal circumstances required that the owners sell promptly and they contacted Mike Shine. Mike undertook a high profile marketing programme to tender the property. Phenomenal interest was generated resulting in a premium price being accepted by the vendor prior to close of tender.
Punakaiki Rocks Hotel Project, West Coast South Island
An exciting, strategic location adjacent to the sensational Pancake Rocks and Blowholes at Punakaiki on the rugged West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island. The complex included a restaurant, bar and conference centre with 27 managed investment apartments intended for on-selling to independent investors.
To finance the project, the developer was required to sell 13 apartments prior to commencement of construction.
However, after some time, no units had been sold and Mike Shine was contracted to reignite the project.
Mike’s coordinated marketing achieved the required sale of the apartments necessary to enable commencement of the project. It also resulted in the unconditional sale of the entire 27 apartments to investors from within New Zealand and abroad.
Results that speak for themselves...
English Country Gardens, Upper Riccarton, Christchurch
"The developers purchased a site and were granted consent to build a residential development of 21 houses targeted for retirees over the age of 60. Six houses were completed and extensively marketed resulting in only one sale. The developers were facing the prospect of no further sales at the time of perceived falling property values.
"Following extensive research, Mike Shine determined that there were negative perceptions associated with the primary approach of targeting the development towards only retirees.
"The implementation of a restructured marketing programme based on rebranding the development as a vibrant community was extremely successful resulting in the sale of all houses (including the establishment of waiting lists) while setting and achieving higher market values.

“We asked Mike Shine to handle the marketing and sale of Oak Lodge, our rural home-stay near Greymouth. The Lodge had been on the market for three years – initially on international websites, then with a local agent – but there had only been one genuine prospect of a sale.
“Mike was at all times, thoroughly professional and gave us sound, credible advice. He revamped the marketing and the property sold within three months. We are happy to recommend him.” Colette & Brian MacKenzie

“I have great pleasure in writing this testimonial for Mike. My Wife and I were thinking of selling our home privately, but after meeting Mike, we were both impressed with his professionalism and then we chose him to sell our home.
"Through the process, from initial proposal to final settlement, we felt that we were in the best hands. Willing to go an extra mile and working with attention to detail. Mike achieved an offer, a day after listing, for the asking price! We couldn’t have been happier that we chose Mike to sell our home!!!”
